Need help? We’re here to assist you with Noise Meter — the sound level meter that keeps the date and time with every reading.
Open the Meter tab. Once microphone access is on, Noise Meter measures straight away: the large number is the current level, with Leq (the average), Max and Min below it. The chart shows the last 60 seconds.
A-weighting follows how people hear, and Japan’s noise standard uses it. C and Z show more low-frequency sound, like footsteps and bass. Fast responds in 0.125 seconds, Slow in 1 second. Change them in Settings → Weighting and Response. They can’t change while you’re recording, because a recording is measured one way from start to end.
Japan’s Environmental Quality Standards for Noise: the day (6:00–22:00) and night (22:00–6:00) limits for the area type you choose in Settings → Area Type. The standards are assessed outdoors over a whole period, so a short indoor recording compared with them is a reference, not a verdict. To hide the lines, turn off Settings → Show Reference Lines.
An iPhone gives an estimate, not a certified measurement, and it can’t replace a verified sound level meter for official or legal use. No iPhone model has been checked against a sound level meter yet, so we don’t state a margin of error. Until you calibrate, readings use the standard correction. In a very quiet room, the microphone’s own noise sets a floor. More in Settings → Accuracy & Limits.
Open Settings → Calibration and tap Calibrate. After Quiet Check and Response Check, choose I Have a Sound Level Meter: set your meter to A-weighting, place it next to your iPhone, play a steady sound such as a fan, enter what the meter shows and tap Save Calibration. You can also use Manual Adjustment, in 0.1 dB steps, and go back at any time with Reset to Standard Correction. Calibration can’t change while you’re recording.
On the Meter, tap Record, and tap Stop when you’re done. The recording is saved to History with its date and time, and you can add a place and a note.
Yes, and when you switch apps. Free recordings run up to 30 minutes in the background; at 30 minutes the recording stops and is saved, and nothing recorded so far is lost. With Full Features, recordings run up to 12 hours — enough for a whole night. You can also set an Auto-Stop time: up to 30 minutes free, longer with Full Features.
The call uses the microphone, so the recording pauses. Nothing recorded so far is lost. Tap Resume when you’re done.
Yes. Settings → Keep Screen On While Measuring is on by default.
The level and the elapsed time, on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, with Pause and Stop. You can turn it off in Settings → Live Activity.
While your iPhone is locked, iOS doesn’t show the app’s updates. Unlock it with Face ID or Touch ID and tap ↻ (Refresh) to bring the numbers up to date. The timer keeps counting on its own.
In the History tab, each with its date and time. Open one to see its chart, Leq, Max, Min and L10/L50/L90, compared with the standard. Tap Edit Details to change its name, place or note.
An image of a recording with its date, time, average and maximum. Tap Share… to send it, or Save Image to save it to Photos. The date and time are always on the card, so it can’t be separated from when it was measured. It also shows how the levels were measured, including the iPhone model.
With Full Features: a CSV file, with one row per second or a summary, and a PDF report on A4 paper. For one recording, the report has its summary, chart and per-minute table; for several (in History, tap Select), it’s one table with a row for each recording.
It’s made for it: the file is saved as UTF-8 with a byte order mark, which Excel needs to show Japanese text correctly. We’ve checked it in Numbers but not yet in Excel; if it looks wrong, please tell us.
CSV and PDF export, and background recordings up to 12 hours. It’s a one-time purchase: no subscription and no free trial. Measuring, history, calibration and share cards stay free.
In Settings, tap Restore Purchase, signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with. Apple handles the purchase; Noise Meter never sees your payment details.
No. The microphone is used only to calculate sound levels, and only the numbers are saved.
No. There is no account, no server, no analytics and no advertising. The app goes online only to reach Apple’s App Store for Full Features: to show its price, buy it and restore it. Read the privacy policy.
In History, open a recording and tap Delete Recording. To delete several, tap Select, choose them and delete them. Noise Meter asks first, and a deleted recording can’t be brought back. To delete everything, delete the app.
Noise Meter is made for iPhone and needs iOS 17 or later.
フル機能で、CSV(1秒ごとのデータ、または概要)と、A4のPDFレポートを書き出せます。
